Since its first shipments of household energy storage systems in 2012, NICHICON CORPORATION has become an industry leader in this category, with cumulative sales of around 40,000 units (as of September 2017). The Company has now developed the ESS-P1S1, a portable power storage system for small shops, public facilities and condominiums that is compact, lightweight, inexpensive and requires no construction. The system will be on display at CEATEC JAPAN 2017, taking place at Makuhari Messe from Tuesday to Thursday, October 3 to 6.
Development Background
To date, NICHICON has concentrated on the development and sale of large-scale grid-connected household energy storage systems aimed at achieving self-sufficiency through renewable energy. We have now developed a portable power storage system for small shops, public facilities and condominiums that is compact, lightweight, inexpensive and requires no construction, thereby responding to demand for simple systems that can be used to combat growing uncertainty about disasters.
Product Characteristics
The ESS-P1S1 is compact and lightweight, has casters that make it mobile, but can store 2.0 kWh of power, allowing it to provide 800 W of power for up to 2.5 hours in the event of a power outage. The system can be used, for example, to power cash registers, refrigerators and lighting at convenience stores or pharmacies, school broadcasting facilities, and as a backup power supply for desktop PCs and other equipment at small offices/home offices (SOHOs). Whereas power storage systems to date have focused on detached houses, this system can be used for disaster preparedness in condominiums and community housing, easily providing safety and peace of mind.
If the timer function is used, the system can be set to charge and discharge at certain times, taking advantage of a peak power shift.
- Installation is easy; no construction is necessary.
- The system is compact and portable, with casters, so it can be easily moved to the necessary location.
- With a storage capacity of 2 kWh, it has sufficient capacity to act as backup for a TV, refrigerator or PC and charge a smartphone.
- The unit is equipped with a UPS function, so there is no need to worry about desktop PC data being lost in the event of a power outage.
- The timer can be used to set charging and discharging times.
- The dedicated indoor version is guaranteed for 10 years.
- Can be used in a variety of scenarios (public facilities, small shops, offices, condominiums, general homes, etc.)
